1950s In the Beginning

1956

  • First span of the Causeway opens
  • 900 acres of land is purchased from Emma & Alfred Suter
  • First Board of Directors is elected
1957
  • Bids are taken for roads, water, sewage, and drainage
  • Soviets launch Sputnik
1958
  • Estate homeowners draw names from a hat for lot locations
  • Tree removal begins on site
  • A golf course architect is hired
1959
  • Alaska & Hawaii both become states
  • Work on boat launch and ramp begins
  • Construction on water, sewage, underground electric lines & roads

1960s Designed for Enjoyable Living

  • First new home is built
  • Tchefuncta Country Club is established
1961
  • Clubhouse, pool, two tennis courts & 9 hole course open.
  • 30 homes in TCE
1964
  • Marina opened
1965
  • 100 homes in TCE
1966
  • Star Trek first broadcast on NBC
1969
  • US Astronauts land on the moon
  • Golf Course expands to 18 holes
  • 2nd span of the Causeway opens

1970s Growing with St Tammany

  • The Dow jones closes above 1,000 for the first time
1974
  • 2 tennis courts, locker rooms & other improvements added

  • Louisiana Superdome is dedicated
1976
  • The Bicentennial celebration

1980s-1990s Quiet Times

1983

  • Pope John Paul visits his would-be assassin in prison to forgive him
1993
  • New 24-hour monitored guardhouse opens at TCE
1994
  • Newt Gingrich leads the republican party in taking control of both the House of representatives and the Senate

2000s Building the Future, Preserving the Past

2005

  • Hurricane Katrina - 5,000 trees knocked down, nine homes are destroyed
  • 319 Acres of land purchased from the Slaughter family to increase the size of TCE
2006
  • 2006 Original Red Barn destroyed by fire
  • Renovations for TCC are approved
2008
  • New 25,000 square-foot clubhouse opens
  • 6 newly designed holes on the golf course
2009
  • T-2 Sales Begin

2010s Keeping Up with the Times

  • World-Class Golf Learning Center is built

  • New wind screens are installed at the Tennis Courts
